How we create practical, trustworthy kitchen guides
Shelf & Counter exists to help readers make practical decisions about kitchen organization. We aim to publish clear, useful guidance grounded in real-space constraints, careful research, and honest discussion of tradeoffs.
Our editorial principles
- Start with the space, problem, and routine before considering products.
- Check important measurements, materials, care instructions, and safety information against reliable sources.
- Explain who a method or product may suit—and who may be better served by another option.
- Distinguish researched recommendations from products we have personally tested.
- Correct meaningful errors clearly and promptly.
Research and sourcing
We prefer primary and authoritative sources, including manufacturer specifications, government guidance, and official program policies. We check time-sensitive details as close to publication as practical and avoid presenting changing prices, ratings, or availability as permanent facts.
Product recommendations and testing
A product does not earn a recommendation simply because an affiliate link is available. When we have not personally tested an item, we will not imply that we have. Instead, we may evaluate documented dimensions, features, materials, intended use, and limitations, and we will describe the basis of the recommendation clearly.
Affiliate relationships and independence
Some future content may include affiliate links. If a reader makes a qualifying purchase through one of those links, Shelf & Counter may earn a commission at no additional cost to the reader. Affiliate relationships do not change our standards, and qualifying content will include a clear disclosure.
Corrections and updates
We review published guidance when material facts, safety information, product specifications, or relevant policies change. If you believe something needs correction, please use our Contact page and identify the article and the specific issue.
